This is a very sad commentary on our media...

HP is offering a slimming feature on all their cameras.

Are we that self conscious that we need to digitally change the way we look? I agree that many of our serving sizes and ingredients are questionable, but we still have to be happy with who we are; and not to feel that the only way we can have a decent photo taken of ourselves is by digitally modifying it first.

Harry Potter's invisibility cloak a reality?

British Scientists have discovered that a complex artificial composite, of copper rings and wires patterned onto fiberglass composite sheets, will distort space! This stops microwaves being reflected back, and instead are bent around the cloaked object, whatever its shape, and allowed to flow on as if it didn't exist. I don't believe the cloaks are available at Walmart, yet...
Maybe, next Halloween.

Heads up; it's about time!

Our ABC's, naturally...

David Sacks' book, 'Language Visible', gives a fascinating insight on how our Roman Alphabet grew throughout the ages, beginning with the Phoenicians and adapting numerous other civilization's systems of writing. For example the letter 'A' is derived from the pictogram of an 'ox', 'Aleph' in Phoenician. If you turn the capital letter 'A' on the side, you can still see the horns.

Black Sun in Denmark

Napoleon's Buttons or just a really long invasion?

One of my favourite books is Napoleon's Buttons, a corollary between the affect of chemistry (I know, it sounds boring already) to our history and present. The name of the book refers to one chapter that links the possibility that the chemical used for the buttons, to help fasten the clothing of his army, was inferior and broke during Napoleon's winter attack on Russia. Charles Minard's brilliantly illustrates a schematic of the dwindling size of the army as it advances and eventually retreats.

Gaudi not Gaudy!

Although many people attribute the word 'gaudy' to Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudi, they are incorrect. Whatever your view of Gaudi's work, one has to admit he was an innovator and a genius.
