Hi, Sawsee! Thanks for keeping this link going.

I think you might have missed some of my comments at the prior one. Primarily my last post and a couple about Santa Fe......

Ditto.
Not that I have anything to un-rasa right now...

Hi Lady!

ooops! I missed your last comment AND your Santa Fe comments.

Re: Santa Fe

Do you go to the pow wow every year? You sound like a good person to 'shop' with! It's nice that you are getting to know some of the people too.

Thanks for the info! That's interesting about 'knock off's! It's great that you buy off the pueblos as, I'm sure, most galleries would take the lion-share of the proceeds leaving the actual artist a small share. I understand your affinity to art! I think it is good for the soul (not so good for the pocketbook!).

We took the backroads from Santa Fe to Taos, but never went to the ski area. Beautiful landscape and architecture! I bought some of the hottest chili powder imaginable (and chipotle)! Both spices have great flavour but I always use about 1/8 of what I normally add!

We came very close to buying a R C Gorman litho. I understand he passed away last year.

We have a few carvings and lithos from the Coast Salish and Australian aboriginals.
I was involved with aboriginal groups for the past year and got a small insight into their spirituality and culture.

That's wonderful that you are thinking of GB! I told him before, that I am a recovering book-a-holic! I still stumble into bookstores though and then tear myself away before my wallet makes an appearance!

Yes, I have seen a bit of media coverage on Willa with her new role. The show talked about how similar both backgrounds were and Willa seemed quite proud of that! Mike was interviewed too, but didn't look as impressed!

Maybe Mike will get a wake-up call!

Hi GB!

To get your 'rasa' charged, try reading Crime and Punishment, with the stream of consciousness examples to get inspired and allow the Tabula to 'un-rasa'!

Hey, Sawsee! I never saw the interview with Mike. What show had it? He and his parents have got to be so embarrassed about this! I know I would be.....

I do go to some of the Pow Wows but not the one in Santa Fe. There is one in Oklahoma City in June (Red Earth Festival) which I expect to go to. I hope to run into some friends there.

As I said before, I don't buy much anymore unless it really, REALLY screams at me. Yes, buying from the artist is the better way to go. And a lot more enjoyable too.

I cannot eat hot food so I really have to be careful with my meals in New Mexico. Tex-Mex, hold the jalapenos, is as hot as I can eat! Most New Mexican food sucks the air right out of me!

I'd love to go shopping with you and help you spend your money. I'm really good at that.....

Hi Lady!

I'm not which show I saw Mike (and Willa) on, but it was one of those 'Entertainment tonight' style shows. Mike didn't say too much; he just looked a bit bamboozled over his fiance's new role. Now that she's landed such a high-profile role I'm sure she will find someone else who has much deeper pockets.

The Oklahoma Pow Wow must be spectacular to be at! In one of my meetings with one of the aboriginal groups, I was told that it was tradition to make a clicking sound before entering any forest. This was a way to alert the spirits and beings that you are entering. Later, while I was driving on the highway, I was explaining this to my wife and mimicked the clicking sound. As soon as I made that sound, around the corner we came upon a herd of mountain goats. This was the first time I had ever seen mountain goats along this highway!

I can handle some spices but not to the extreme that many peppers can offer. I once left a beautiful seafood soup after having one sip, as it was so hot I couldn't bear to touch another drop.

Re: Shopping

I'm not sure who likes to spend more money on 'things', my wife or me? Once I see something I like, it is very difficult to walk away.

Hey, Sawsee! Are these aboriginal groups that you refer to in Canada, or somewhere else? Are those clicking sounds like the warning sound that a squirrel makes? Sometimes I "bother" my neighborhood squirrels with them. They freeze and flick their tails while staring at me. I never thought about trying it in the woods....

Yeah, once hot spicy food hits my throat, I feel like I can't even breathe. I just gasp, suck down liquids and eat bread until I can calm down and get air normally.... Oh, and my nose runs, my eyes tear up and I can't speak, too! It's not pretty!

I understand how difficult it is to walk away from something that is "talking" to you, as I call it. That's why I now say that it has to "scream" at me.....

Sawsee said...

hi Lady! Yes, the aboriginal groups are in Canada; now these groups or Nations are called 'First Nations'. We have 3 major First Nations groups in Canada: The Metis, The First Nations and the Inuit.

The clicking sound is just like a squirrel's.

Your symptoms from spicy food easily conjures up a graphic image! I have had similar experiences. Once, years ago, a 'friend' convinced me to order the 3 level spicy salsa. The hottest one sent me to the moon! My eyes began watering profusely and, when I went to wipe away my tears, I accidently got a bit of salsa in my eye! I tore towards the washrooms, barely seeing. I ran into the washroom and began rinsing water over my face and eyes. I then went into a stall to get toilet paper; that's when I heard 'women's voices', in the stalls! I had stumbled, blindly, into the wrong washroom! I waited, quietly, until all were gone and snuck out of there!

Sawsee! That's the best laugh I've had in a long, long time! I'd have paid good money to watch that!

Sorry.......

Greybishop said...

Sawsee!
Eep.
I had a friend who LOVED the spicy stuff, but it didn't love him.
He'd turn really red(like scary, are you alright? kinda red) and sweat like a hothouse window. And yet, he'd never NOT order the hottest thing on the menu. Keep in mind, this is a guy who went with me to Dubai and ate in the India, Thai and other ethnic restaurants that catered to a LARGE local population of their respective homelanders. Hot was HOT! None of this "toned down for North American palates" stuff. I love hot food too and I stuck to the wimpy stuff while I was there. Not brutha Larry. Every meal was an adventure...

Sawsee said...

Hey Lady & GB!

My only saving grace was that nobody saw me in the wrong washroom! I would have been a scary sight with my nose & eyes running, and a beet(!) red face bursting through the doors.

GB: When I was in Thailand I made the mistake of ordering 'medium' spicy! The previous meals I must have been given the tourist-level (wimpy) spicy.

Yes, Hot in Asia/Africa is a lot different than 'hot' here. Your friend reminds me of one of my old friends; he too would order the hottest, paint-removing substance irregardless of personal injury.

Sawsee, I understand your pain. I once touched my eye after picking up a jalapeno to remove it from my plate..... OUCH!!!! I "cried" for the rest of the day!

Anyway, I really do feel bad about laughing at the visual you provided. I hope you, too, can laugh about it now.....

Sawsee said...

Don't feel bad, Lady!

Everybody thought it was pretty funny then, and still do! I laugh too, now...

It is amazing how strong the spice is, even when it is not 'visible'.

Hi, Sawsee! Well, it looks like GB's team is the only one still left in the quest for the Cup. Since he really doesn't care, that's just not fair!

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady! Yes, GB's team is still in it while we watch from afar! Why is that?

I'm not too disappointed as the Canucks were only surviving because of a few players; to win consistently, the whole team has to contribute. I won't be surprised is Canucks get a big shakedown replacing many players.

Oh well, there's always next year...
Unless we 'borrow' GB's team?

Anonymous said...

Hi, Sawsee! Since GB doesn't care, I might root for Buffalo in the East. If they win the Cup, then maybe they'll stop screaming "No Goal!" at us.....

I'm surprised that Detroit is still in it. I kind of thought that all of their points had more to do with their being in an easy division than how good they were....

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady!

Yes, Detriot is doing better than expected. They are not the powerhouse they once were.

I need to pick another Fave to peak my interest. I might pull for Anaheim as I do like Selanne.

Anonymous said...

Hey, Sawsee! For the Western Conference, of course it will be one of the Pacific Division teams for me......

The Stars beat San Jose five out of 8 games. We beat Anaheim four out of 8 games.

Still can't figure out why we are in the Pacific Division though....

Sawsee said...

Lady! Canucks struggle against Anaheim. If it wasn't for Luongo, your Stars would still be in it.

Maybe somebody got the 'Gulf' of Mexico and the 'Gulf' of California mixed up. The multiple time zones and flying times are much harder for the 'western' teams than the Eastern ones.

Anonymous said...

That's right! Somebody needs to shake up those complacent Eastern cake-eaters!!!!

Sawsee said...

Maybe the NHL should start 'handicapping' the Eastern players, like they do for horse racing....

strap an extra 40 pounds (or 18 kilos) on each of those pampered eastern players to simulate the extra luggage all our western players have to carry!

How about really heavy skates? Or blades that are really thick...

Anonymous said...

Yeah! And they can shed one third of their handicap for each time zone they cross.....

So, who can we talk to about that?

Sawsee said...

I think we need to get buy-in from the Western teams first. Then we will approach the East with heavy bags in hand (and a helmet on).

Anonymous said...

Hi, Sawsee! Buy-in from the West should be pretty darn easy!

So, are Ottawa and Buffalo going to travel by Bus or BOAT between their games........?

As to the West, a Cup battle between Hasek of Detroit and his old team in Buffalo could be really interesting, but having either of the Eastern teams travelling to the Pacific coast would be such sweet satisfaction!!! te he he he

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady!

Seeing I'm in such a good mood, I'll suggest that Ottawa and Buffalo can travel by roller-blade. This allows them plenty of fresh air and exercise. In fact it may reduce the time they need to spend in the gym.

Yes, if Anaheim advances the Eastern lads will have to learn to sleep on a plane and wear more than one watch so they'll know what the local time is...
