Yep, GB, the Sens didn't win The Cup! They were too tired to show up last night.....

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady!

Yes, the Sens had to fly a long way. Travelling is very tiring...

The Ducks demolished them! I prefer when the Finals go 7 games.

Yes, Sawsee, seven games makes it seem more like a contest with worthy opponents....

Hey, Sawsee, I have a question that maybe you can answer. Since Dallas is in Anaheim's division, we play them a lot. I hope I don't upset Dutch here, but I've always found their fans to be a bit obnoxious and annoying.

For example, one thing that they always do is chant the opposing goalie's name. They do this to us and I heard them do it to Ottawa too. There are only a couple of teams whose fans do this.

In Dallas, we chant Turco's name too, but it's because he's having a great game. Anyway, I can't understand what the Anaheim fans think that they are accomplishing. Is it supposed to rattle the opposing goalie? I know that it's never rattled Turco. It just make their fans seem kind of rude and somewhat ignorant to me.....

Hi Lady! I guess there are obnoxious fans everywhere. The Anaheim fans must think their chanting will disturb the other goalie; it reminds me of the crowd antics in baseball.

The crowds that boo, an opposing country's National Anthem is the one antic I shrink from embarressment at. It has happened, a few times, in the playoffs at Canuck's games. It is so uncalled for; a very rude and disrespectful display.

i missed something...how did we get from tabula rosa to hockey? is this like an inside joke to hockey fans?

Sawsee said...

Hi lostbean! All subjects are welcome! Lady and I began to talk about Hockey when the playoffs began. In the first series, both our hometeams were playing.

Or another possibility: Smokey lures the unsuspecting into its lair with icecubes...and a big stick!

LOSTbean said...

but is tabula rosa synonymous with hockey somehow? like it's a player's name? i am scrathing my head in confusion (nothing new). ;o) maybe i didn't get the subject of this post?

Sawsee said...

I've been using this 'subject', tabula rasa:blank slate, as an area for people that want to talk about a specific post.

As it is labeled 'blank slate' any subject will do.

Talking about 'other' subjects, we were horrified to find that our little kitty had terminated a hummingbird. We don't have many hummingbirds in our area (even less now!), so it is always a delight to see them.

Hovering. Great feeding strategy, not so much great defensively...

Sawsee said...

Hey GB! I love how they hover!

Yes, hitting a stationary object is easier than a moving one. Normally, the little hover-ers, hover a few feet off the ground out of range of a cat.

sawsee-NOW i get what tabula rosa is "code" for. being a newbie, i gotta learn the sawsee lingo ropes.

poor birdy, but you should still sorta praise the terminator for "protecting" you and removing the threat from the area.

when i lived in CO, we had tons of hummingbirds and they drove my cats nuts that they'd hover just out of leaping, swiping paw range. it was fun to watch tho. LOL!

Hey, Beaner, this is where we chat about things that aren't related to to Sawsee's other Blog Posts. Every week or so it falls off of the main page, so Sawsee opens a new one. These actually go back for a month or two.

Oh, no! The Terminator got a humming bird! That's so sad. Did you scold her? I'll let mine play with insects but nothing further up the food chain. Once I had to pry a lizard out of one of my cat's mouth. I set it free and it scurried off. The lizard did lose it's tail but I understand that they grow back.

Booing a National Anthem! How awful. I've never heard of that. Our Stars fans have one habit that kind of embarrasses me. Everytime the word "stars" is sung in our National Anthem, the fans shout out the word "stars"! But that's the worst thing I've ever seen them do.

Sawsee said...

lostbean! "...learn the sawsee lingo ropes"! lol!

I love watching hummingirds hover, and eagles soar!

Lady! I think your crowd must be very good overall, if saying 'stars' is the worse thing! Our crowd can get quite frenetic, but there's a handful (or more!) that are a total embarressment to everyone!

In our backyard, on the other side of the fence is a deer with a broken leg! It seems to be managing 'ok' and not suffering, so it must be an old injury.

Hey, Sawsee! We don't have Eagles in this part of Texas, but we do have lots and lots of Hawks. I can spend hours watching them ride the thermals. A few years ago, while in New Mexico, I was standing on a mountain overlook (about 10,000') and was looking DOWN at a Red-tailed Hawk as he soared over the valley below. Now, that was really, really cool!

Oh, no! A deer with a broken leg can't be a good thing. Is he getting around OK?

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady!

I like your hawk story! Very cool!

Years ago, I was riding my bike (bicycle) and came over a crest of a hill and disturbed 2 eagles on the side of the road. They took off but in the same direction as I was heading. For about ten seconds (it seemed longer!) the 2 majestic birds flapped their powerful wings, just a few feet from me. I guess I was going about 25 mph when they left me, in their dust!

Well the deer has taken off. It seemed to get around quite well considering its precarious leg. Poor thing. They come down from the mountains in the early spring and have to cross a couple of major roads. We are approaching into their world and have smaller, and smaller places to live.

Sawsee, I stand in jealousy.
Green with envy of your eagle (and Lady's hawk) story. The closest I've come was seeing them from a distance, usually in a moving car.

I'm also jealous of the fact that you were going that fast on a bike.

It's been many, many moons since GB could pedal his fat ass at 25 mph!

Sawsee, your story reminds me of another "bird" experience that I had. It's called "Lift, lift, LIFT"!

I was driving down one of the mountains outside of Tucson late one afternoon. I saw a very large dark colored bird standing in the shadows on the left shoulder. As soon as I saw him, I hit my brakes. As soon as he saw me, he took flight, right in front of my car! For a few seconds (seemed longer, though) all I could see out of my windshield was feathers. The entire windshield! Anyway, as I pressed even harder on the brake, all I could do was scream "Lift, lift, LIFT"! He did and all parties escaped unharmed. Whew!

Sawsee said...

Hey GB! I hope you are still impressed with my 25 mph speed, once I tell you I was going 'downhill'!?

About 17 years ago, I actually went through a radar and was 'pulled over' for speeding; and yes, I was on my 18 speed. I was 'clocked at going 48 mph! I should have kept the ticket, but I was quite choked at the time, as it cost me $75!

A friend of mine, saw 2 eagles lock talons and spiral down, unable to unlock. They hit the water and after some fluffing and splashing took off, seemingly unfazed.

And Sawsee, for just a few seconds, you soared with the Eagles..... How cool is that!

Lady, that's funny stuff!

Back in my band days, (lot's of driving, tons of driving stories!) we often had close encouters of the furry kind.

Coming out of Atikokan in northern Ontario, my then boss was in the car in front, myself and Larry the guitar player bringing up the rear. Swampy lowland type area, foggy. Suddenly this freakin' massive MOOSE runs up out of the ditch, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CAR! It turns sharply as my boss is braking (We were braking too, natch!) and starts running down the road DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE CAR.

When we pulled up beside the car, there's my boss, white as a sheet, saying over and over "Knees. Big, hairy knees. Knees..."

If he'd hit the thing, chances are that everyone in the car would have died. As it was, FUNNY, FUNNY stuff.

Another time, different boss, we used two vans then. I'm bringing up the rear, he's off in the lead. This is in Alberta, prarie land, but not as flat as say, Saskatchewan. We come around a hilly curve and there in the middle of the road is a HERD of little deer. I'm STANDING on the brakes. Apparently calm as you please, the boss weaves his way through a dozen and a half randomly fleeing deer, and just keeps on going like nothing happened. Never seen anything quite like it.

Greybishop said...

And Sawsee, my chubby butt is tired just thinking about getting a bike up to 48 mph...

GB, I can't stop laughing at the "Knees" story! It's funny what you remember in a close call. I can't tell you what kind of bird it was or what it looked like BUT I can perfectly describe the pattern on it's feathers!

Sawsee said...

Lady & GB! Great storys! You both tell your experiences so well that I can actually see the furry/feathery events!

I've seen a small moose up close, and I was grateful it was small. Luckily, we were in a canoe 20 feet away.
Lady: That must have been a BIG bird!

Anonymous said...

Yes, Sawsee, it was a very BIG bird!

Like GB, I have many "adventures while driving" stories. Maybe someday we'll get to share more of them.

GB, I laughed myself to sleep last night with your "knees" story....
