I'm not much of an SNL fan, except for the first few seasons, but this sketch is gold. As a musician, it gives me the giggles every time.

Um....er.....GB.....you were ....um.... five years old when SNL first aired on TV....
Were you allowed to stay up that late? Or are there SNL reruns?

I actually do remember watching it when I was about 8. Babysitters like kids like me. No trouble, just don't turn off the tv until the car rolls into the driveway and I bolt up to bed and pretend to be asleep...

But I've seen most of the older shows as an adult. None of the "modern" casts could touch Dan, Bill, John, Chevy, Gilda and Jane. The Eddie Murphy years came close, but it's been dismal otherwise.

Oh, and I gotta give respect, Dennis Miller's news bit was consistently funnier than Chevy's.

I can't remember when or why I stopped watching SNL, but the original cast is the ONLY cast that I remember. They were very funny and entertaining.

John Belushi, Gilda, Jane and Dan were cornerstones for that show!

I stopped watching it after they left. Martin Short, Eddie Murphy and a few others did revive the show briefly.

Belushi and Dan as the Blues Brothers.
The genius was so subtle that current comedians think that they're cool when they immitate them.

The irony continues to this day...

"Jane you ignorant slut!" and any and all guest appearances by George Carlin remain comic gold to this day.

The Blues Brothers were ahead of their time! If Belushi had not self-destructed, I think they were on the road to super stardom, as musicians.

I guess John was a genius, and like many of that stature, life is sometimes difficult to deal with.

In one agency I worked at, my writer was a genius. He found it very difficult to deal with or accept 'average' people. His intellect was on super-drive all the time but he suffered from depression. I remember, when he was about to be fired I pleaded with the owners asking for a separate location and to allow myself to be the buffer. He could have been anything he wanted, if he only had an ounce of humility and a touch of patience.
