Build a Hobbit house!

I want one! I'd need some guarantees on the plumbing, but otherwise I'm ready to pick my hillside in the Shire!

Hi newbie!

I notice on their plans, they do include a 'drain' so they have water coming into their bungalow (whether by drips or gushes, they do not state).

There's no reason why a person could not hook up pumped water from a well or citywater sources though, and solar or electric. Does the Shire provide extra services?

One note of caution: BagsEnd may have high taxes!

My friend Scott, who just moved to Port Hardy, B.C. (You'd like him Sawsee - He has ecclectic taste in EVERYTHING) has plans to do this in the next two or three years if he can sort out the details.
Apparently, there's a small community of this type of home somewhere in B.C.
In fact, one of the last times he was in my store before heading for the Left Coast, Scott bookmarked this very site for me.

It's a small frickin' world.

Darn those taxes, Sawsee! Must they vex all facets of life and wonderful locales? Perhaps I'd qualify for a Hobbitat for Humanity home? :)

Ohhhh, maybe I can qualify for a Hobbitat for Humanity home too. I would like a basement or a burrow added to mine.

Hi All!

That's cool about your friend GB! Port Hardy! I hope they like precipitation! I've never gone but I understand Telegraph cove and Alert Bay are very interesting. Sointula has a very interesting past with 'Brother John' or 'Brother 12'. Do a google on this guy.

I know a lot of the gulf islands are building with straw but I've never heard of a turf covered one. Let me know if you find out where there are homes of this kind.

newbie: lol! If you think a letter of recommendation may help you to qualify for a "Hobbitat for Humanity' home, let me know and I'll gladly write one for you!

Thanks JDH! Very cool links! I love looking at old ads or editorials that showcase the 'future'! I think I have one of those orange velour jumpsuits!

Yeah, Port Hardy.

The best part? Out in the water, there are these floating bell thingies.

The Port Hardy Buoys.

Sawsee said...

GB! lol! Bouys, deadheads (barely submerged logs), and killer whales, oh no!

Tell your friend that out west, the 'lumberjacks' are called 'loggers'. He wouldn't want to make a faux pas and end up as the latest Port Hardy Buoy (or deadhead!).

Sawsee-Thank you for the offer, I'd appreciate that letter! As with JDH's, I would like a basement, and if it isn't too greedy, an attached two-cupcake garage, as well. You and Canine Ridge will have to come visit, wearing the orange velour jumpsuits, of course!!!

I asked my buddy if there was a Port Laurel nearby. Or perhaps a Port Thomas?

Sawsee said...

newbie! Righto! I'll get on the letter, and get our nice velour jumpsuits drycleaned!

gb! I don't think there is a Port Laurel. I'm pretty sure there are lots of Hardy Buoys though...

anyone sorta think this looks like jacob's hut from LOST (at first glance)?

Your talk orange jumpsuits reminds me of my time in a Philippine prison, group dancing in the court yard to Michael Jackson's Thriller - see if you can spot me -

Hi, JDH!

Second line from the left, fourth man back. You were a little out of step.

Did I win?

Hi Lady-in-Gray,
And you are the winner!
At first, I thought it was funny and strange, but then I thought it was kind of cool in a bizarre drummer-different-beat-march kind of way.
My friend observed that the background guys wear sandals, while the beater dancers wear really nice shoes.

Hey, LIG---Thanks for turning me on to the "other" button when it comes to choosing my identity! It worked!

Hi Newbie and LiG!

Hey! Thanks for cluing me on to this too!

You're more than welcome Newbie and JDH. I'm probably the most computer challenged person here, but, as they say, even a stopped clock is right twice a day....

Now, how does it feel to be an "Other"?

Hi All! Very funny Lady: "how does it fel to be an 'other'?"

JDH! Lol! You have the moves!

newbie! Glad to see you are no longer anonymous!
