Lol! I wonder if the lights were really meant for locating the boomerang rather than just watching it swirl in the sky?
Your story reminds me of an incident that my previous boss had. He had married a woman who had 2 boys from a previous relationship. At Christmas, he bought the boys a very expensive remote control airplane. He paid over $300 for it. On Christmas morning he took the plane and 2 very excited boys outside to give it a whirl. As he was the adult, he wanted to teach the boys how to operate this new 'toy'. They went to a farmer's field and he started the plane up and quickly it tore into the sky. He was amazed at how quickly it took off. The boys squeeled with delight! Soon panic entered my boss's heart as he struggled to turn the plane around...the plane was now out of radio control and they watched in the sky as the plane zoomed forever away...
Sawsee! That's SO the type of Xmas story that is BETTER than "they played with it until they got bored and we all had hot chocolate."
You never forget the toys that fail spectacularly!
My most bittersweet memory of Xmas toys are the Lego Castle that was missing pieces and the Bionic Man that was supposed to have "Kung Fu Grip" but didn't. While the toys were disasterous at the time, the memories of them are among the strongest of my childhood. These days they make me chuckle rather than cry...
Hi JDH! That link was so cool! When I first looked at the illusion, I could only see it one way. After de-focussing my eyes, and having the image slightly in my peripheral vision did I see the opposite motion.
GB! How many of us believed the hype right until the toy came out of the box!
"Kung Fu Grip"! You are right; these are the stories that remain in our minds!
I am SO right brained. I was able to briefly see the image spin counter clockwise, but only for a second and then back to clockwise and I couldn't get it to go the other way.
hmmmm.... I'm either very well rounded or very confused. In any case, I have a busy brain. But, I already knew that....
She'll do full spins in both directions for me AND she'll also do these pendulum-like swings. Like me, the girl is always moving and, seemingly, directionless. Strange, I guess....
I saw her spinning clockwise. Then I had to cover up all but her foot and she started spinning counter clockwise. That is the way she stayed until I covered her up and focused on the foot again.
Out of the corner of my right eye, I can get her to briefly go ccw and even sweep back and forth, but as soon as I try to turn back to look directly, she stubbornly returns to clockwise...

I had a boomerang once. About one in four times I could get it to come back and land close by...
I don't think I EVER managed to throw it and catch it on the return.
The lights would help me find it...

Lady! That is amazing! I would suspect that you are equally strong on both sides.
GB! I guess we are the same!

The pendulum swinging would be neat to see.
