Interesting commercial, even if it is advertising Spam!

For Spam-lovers you can also buy a very cool looking book about Spam! Yes, we are talking about the Spam commonly found in a tin (or in Lady's case, Spam sculptured into it's own bucket. Or found in Spam McMuffins as told by newbie!).

ummm...

i can't see that book making the top 10 at barnes and noble, or anywhere else, but hey, maybe it's just cuz i am a picky eater.

i tried spam once, and only once. 'nuff said.

lostbean! Happy New Year!

Spam is not on my menu either! The book looks interesting and a bit more palatable.

Our kitty may not agree though.

Wow! It amazes me all that Spam has inspired...Monty Python, these toastvertisers, etc...I don't have sound, so excuse me if I duplicate any info shared in the ad, but here are some things I know about Spam:
1)Hawaii is obsessed with Spam. I believe it is connected to its war history, but it is even on the menu at McDonalds, like Spam McMuffins.
2)There is a town (I think in the city where Spam originated and is manufactured)that holds an annual Spamfest! Among the activities is a Spam sculpting contest...the images that stick in my mind are of a Spamcastle and of a Spam army tank, complete with the rotating gun.

what would you sculpt?

I think I'd want to sculpt a container to barf in.....

straight from wikipedia:

"Varieties of Spam vary by region and include Spam Black Pepper, Spam Less Sodium, Spam Garlic, Spam and Cheese, Spam with Bacon (Hormel bacon), Spam Spread, Spam Fritters, Spam Lite (containing pork and chicken), Spam Golden Honey Grail, Spam Hot and Spicy (with Tabasco sauce), Spam Hickory Smoked, and Spam Oven Roasted Turkey[1] - the latter is also available as halal food (see the halal sign on cans), meaning that it is permissible under Islamic law, and is especially popular in Muslim markets."

spam fritters?

pass the pepto...

lb! Spam and cheese! Help! It makes the Spam Mcmuffin more appealing...

I did a google search and found 2 Spam fests near our hatchees:

- in Austin, Texas (Lady, bring your sculpture!)

- in Ontario (the one in Ontario has a singing contest too! GB, this may be a great way to get some PR!)

Oh, My. Gosh!

Well, if it's in wikipedia, it MUST be true..... (sigh)

I only know/knew one person who admitted to liking Spam. My ex-husband. For him, I think it actually had more to do with ease of preparation, than actually liking it, though....

Too funny, Sawsee. While I LOVE Austin, I'd hate to ruin it with a spamfest... As for GB and the PR, why not! (giggle, giggle)

I don't sing much in public these days...I'm not sure that canned meat is what would be required to drag me out of retirement.

I don't even like flakes of chicken.

LOSTbean said...

flakes o' chicken? is that a canadian cuisine with which i am not familiar?

Greybishop said...

I guess it's a Canadian brand. Canned chicken. Way salty and covered in a lovely layer of gelatin at the top. Sort of like canned tuna or salmon, neither one of which you could pay me to eat.

Ick.

LOSTbean said...

the gelatin visual created the same effect as pondering spam and it's culinary versatility. ick.

I admit to picking an odd assortment of...stuff...out of my canned salmon, but I've never seen a can of tuna with "a lovely layer of gelatin" or anything else that needed to be picked out of it. That confuses me.

Greybishop said...

I just remember as a kid, "Flakes of Chicken" being advertised. Since I hated the canned salmon/tuna, my Mom thought I might like the chicken instead. So did I.

We were both wrong. I assume the gelatin is fat that rises to the top of the can during the canning process, but I don't know. I do know that I don't like canned meat!

Sawsee said...

I've seen the canned chicken but never purchased or, heaven forbid, opened one...

How about tinned sardines? Or smoked oysters in a tin?

Greybishop said...

Sawsee, I don't think that there is ANY way to make sardines or oysters palatable to me, in or out of a tin!

My Dad used to love sardines, while I couldn't stand to be in the same room with them.
