Buy a flying alarmclock!

I wonder if it comes with safety glasses?

Holy Fudgsicles!

That might actually get me out of bed on time!

I love that the "snooze" function requires you retrieve the "helicopter" part.

Once I'm out of bed, I'm up for the day, but I have an amazing ability to get back into R.E.M. sleep in the alotted time between snoozes if I don't actually get out of bed...

I once had an idea for the perfect alarm clock for people like me.

You set it for a time, 6 AM, for example.

At 5 AM, the clock RANDOMLY moves itself ahead, anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour.

So, when you see 6 AM on the clock face, it could be pretty well that time or it might only be 5 AM. You have to get out of bed to be certain (Obviously, you can't sleep where you could see another clock or watch) and like I said before, once out of bed, I'm up for the day.

For folks like me who LOVE the snooze button, we need all the help we can get.

Hey GB! I love your random alarmclock idea! That is perfect! The mind would whirl wondering if the alarm was only 1 minute or 59 minutes away.

I figure as a bonus I'd get time for breakfast at least a couple days a week...

Lol!

I am not a big fan of alarm clocks! For years, I was called into work at all hours of the night and had to set my alarm for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 a.m. on a fairly regular basis. When I hear an alarm, I cringe. I finally bought a clock radio and placed it across the room, so I HAD to get up.

When I was first re-integrating to "normal" work hours in my post-music years, I slept THROUGH not one, but two alarm clocks about once ever 6 to 8 weeks.

My brain would simply fold the sound into whatever dream I was having. I dreampt about backing up a truck a LOT.

For about 5 years I had to have 2 separate clocks, set to different times AND different alarm times so that I'd not only be fuzzy about the time, but never have more than 3 minutes or so between snoozes.

Things are better these days, but my store's 9AM opening is still just a suggestion.

Lol! Maybe your 3-day novel could be about your ability to turn any alarm sound into a tolerable dream sequence.

I love your story about the truck backing up!

I may have to look into this item. GB, you are so right that the key is having to find the flyer to use the snooze. I loved the truck dreams, that's too funny! I did my own makeshift version of GB's invention by closing my eyes and hitting the forward minute button on the clocks, so I'd never know exactly how fast the clocks were. Yes, I said clocks, because I am also a fan of the staggered alarms in random spots method. The radio alarm was NEVER a possibility b/c my brain just absorbed that, no matter the volume. At one point, I was up to 4 alarms, 2 with batteries just in case the power went out in the middle of the night. Eventually, I got to the point where I would get up about 10 minutes before the first alarm, but it was REALLY ugly for a while. newbie

Dear GB & newbie,

Is this alarm problem common to all 'Lost' fanatics?

newbie! 4 alarms! 2 with batteries! Wow, someone should make a movie about you guys!

I hope things are better....

Don't forget about me. I'm the one who sleeps so soundly that my alarm wakes up everyone in the house and some of the neighbors, too!

Hi Lady!

Ok, there is a definite correlation between Losties and alarms. What does it mean!

Hi, Sawsee! My problem, I think, is that I'm just NOT a morning person. I've even gone so far as to plug my coffee pot into a timer thinking that the aroma would wake me up and plugging a lamp into another timer thinking that the light would wake me up. None of it worked. On the plus side, though, I did have coffee ready to go when I finally did get up.

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady! Lol! I hope the coffee was not too old!? I saw an alarm yesterday, that had a built in bacon oven. The bacon would begin to cook 10 minutes before the alarm went off.

I never used to be a morning person until we got dogs. We were staying at a remote cabin and around 4:30 a.m. the dogs started wagging their tails, "thump, thump, thump...". I got them to sleep for another 30 minutes and finally got up around 5:30 a.m., for our morning stroll. I was quite surprised to see a herd of cows, surrounding the cabin, eating all the dry grass.

Case in point.

My clock went off at 7:30 this morning. It's very loud, but I've changed to one that does a long droning buzz rather than a "beep-beep" sound. I got around to the snooze button at 7:43. 13 minutes of dreaming about being on a funky space ship with really loud droning engines.

Newbie! Awesome. I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one.

Lady - I do the coffee timer, but just for convenience. If loud droning alarms don't work, no coffee smell is going to do the trick.

Sawsee - The bacon oven! I'd end up setting the house on fire eventually.

Lady, I think the lamp and coffee pot combo in addition to volume (loud enough for neighbors to hear!) may just trump all!

GB-the "close your eyes and set the clock" method also works in the car, though be prepared for many "WTF?" comments from friends. Oh, and be sure you reset the random minutes after you've figured out exactly how far ahead you are set, b/c I went through a phase where I turned into Rainman w/ the compulsive and instantaneous ability to subtract 12 minutes from the clock. When my brain started subtracting 12 from everything, I knew I had problems.

Sawsee-Losties having issues with time?LOL! Imagine how my brain exploded on the Des episode and at the end of the finale!! Oh, and don't think that that flicking Hatch clock didn't send shivers down my spine! What if the Swan clock had a snooze button? :)

Oops, that was me, though at this point my weirdness may speak for itself! newbie

Newbie -
I'm with ya on the "Rainman" thing. I randomly add to my clock every time there's a power failure. Right now it's plus 21 minutes and even though I'm currently sleeping in the livingroom (A/C!) I still mentally subtract the difference.

My 9 AM store opening is usually 9:21 these days...

Hi, Guys! Fun conversation today. I think I might need to clear up some things, though. Some of my stories go back for decades.

Most of you know that I live by myself, but only for the last 18 years. I have had to share my home with others the rest of the time. Also, I haven't always lived in a single-family dwelling. The annoyed neighbors at least lived in the same building.

I gave up the coffee pot thing 24 years ago when I also had to give up caffeine. (That's why it takes me sooo long to become fully functioning in the mornings. Don't even try to talk to me then.)

I gave up the lamp thing 14 years ago when I moved to Dallas and never bought a new lamp for my bedroom. (I dumped a lot of my old stuff before the move.)

I LOVED the Bacon Oven idea except that I'd want to eat the bacon and that's just not healthy. GB's comment sealed the deal on that. Yes, I'd probably burn my house down too!

My best solution to getting up in the morning was to RETIRE!!! No more problem. I get up when I wake up. Period.

Newbie: Try clicking on "Other" and then type in your name below the "Other" button. That works for me.

Lady! You had to give up caffiene?

I tried to give up coffee but for about a week I had the worst headaches. I know green tea has caffiene in it too, but it never gave me the same coffee sensation. Eventually, I was lured back to the coffee pot.

gb & n: funny about the 'rainman' comparison.

n: Very funny, if the hatch clock had a snooze button!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Sawsee, I HAD to give up caffeiene. (boo hiss) I don't remember getting a headache, maybe because I wasn't awake to notice it...

How are you and Canine Ridge doing today?

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady! Do you eat chocolate? Or do you avoid all caffeine? I think I remember you supporting M&Ms.

Today, we are OK; yesterday was sad, as it was a 2 week anniversary of Duke's passing. It is getting easier but we still have not gone into Duke's fave dog food store. It was one of his top things to do as all the staff knew him and he would get plenty of treats.

Our golden has begun to be more interested in going for walks with us. He rarely would want to, and most times it was very difficult to get him into the car. Yesterday, we drove to a riverside park with our very willing Golden. This week we will bring him to the petstore and deal with the emotional hurdle of telling the staff of Duke's last days.

Hey, Sawsee! Yes, I'm a chocoholic, but don't tell anyone. I also drink iced tea on occasion. The caffeine level is WAY below a cup of coffee or a soft drink, though. It's more than I should have, but manageable.

Unfortunately, there will be about a year of those emotional hurdles and anniversaries to get through. It's hard. Was your Golden overshadowed by Duke? Maybe he's feeling better about himself now that he is Alpha dog.

Hi Lady, yes, Duke was more involved in things, our golden is a bit of a curmudgeon.. his biggest excitement is his ball; when we come home after being out a few hours; or when people come over. He is old, 11 1/2, so hasn't wanted to walk with me in the afternoons, like Duke did ( Duke would come sit by me wagging his tail at around 2:30, waiting for me to say "ok"). I think the golden senses our sadness at times, and begins to demand attention... maybe his way of pulling us back into the present... anyway, he is getting more attention now. He was always the Alpha dog, so that hasn't changed. (He would come and butt his head in when I was petting Duke, in Duke's last week of illness, which really made me mad).
