Hey, Sawsee and GB!

The Finals start tonight. All of the games will start at 8:00 Eastern/5:00 Pacific, regardless of where they are played.

Of course, the Senators went out to Anaheim early in order to adjust their internal time clocks. It's just a shame that the Senators won't get to experience the joys of three games in 3 time zones within four days like our Western teams do!!!

Hi Lady!

I guess, even with all the rest, the Senators could not hack the long flight across the continent. ; )

It must be exhausting for all those poor eastern teams! When they fly back to Ottawa, the training staff should encourage them to bring their own pillows; maybe they'll sleep better. ; O

Hi, Sawsee!

There was a game?

GB! Maybe for political reasons, it may be wise to fly the flag at your store!

You could leverage the hockey frenzy into selling sports books!

Hi, guys! Tee hee hee...

Take that you spoiled Eastern NHL brats!!!

I completely forgot about last night's game, though, so I didn't see any of it. How about you?

I'll be tuned in Saturday night if I get back from Oklahoma City early enough.

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady!

I missed last night's game too! I'll have to be more attentive and see if I can watch Saturday's game.

I'm envious of you going to the Red Earth Festival! I understand there is a museum there that features many totem poles from our area.

Do you watch all the dancing or just go to the market?
What kinds of food do you like to eat there?
Are there shuttle buses or can you drive right to the fairgrounds? (Sorry for so many questions!)

Have a great, and safe, trip!

Hey, Sawsee! This one is all indoors at the Convention Center, except for a parade on Friday morning. Most of the smaller pow wows are outdoors but not this one. I've seen the dancing at other shows, so I probably won't watch this time.

I've actually never eaten Indian food. I've heard that they cook with lard so I've never wanted to try it. They have a taco looking thing on fry bread that looks pretty good, though.

Mostly I shop the Market and look for old friends.

Totem Poles in Oklahoma! I'd never heard that but I wouldn't be surprised. They call themselves the Native American State and I know there are numerous museums there.

The problem with OK this time of year is the weather. This is tornado season and OK is even scarier than Texas. Because of that, I try not to spend much time there. Many years I have been literally chased back home by storms with the highway closing behind me. It can be a white-knuckle trip!

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady! I just did a google and it seems the museum is called the 'Red Earth' museum in Oklahoma. It houses the 'Fred Jones' totem pole collection. I wonder how they transported them?

I think 'lard' is one shade 'healthier' than shortening.

Tornado season! Yow! That would be scary! Keep your eyes on the road, and occasionally glance at the sky!

Have a great trip!

Hi, Sawsee!

Just wanted to let you know that I made it to and from OKC safely. We almost didn't go because of the iffy weather, but it turned out to be a beautiful day, even with it's heavily overcast start.

My only disappointment was that NONE of my friends were there. Bummer. Some of the vendors told us that sales at that particular show (for the past couple of years) have not been covering their travel expenses and that they too might stop coming.

Who knew that my "I don't need any more stuff" would have such an impact! I did, however, successfully steer my travel companions to "stuff that they needed"....

I did buy a really cool lizard fetish carved out of Picasso Marble. That one loudly screamed "take me home".

Also, I saw a t-shirt that said "Love America or Give it Back". I loved the sentiment.....

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady; welcome back!

It must be about 10 hours to drive there?

Oh oh! Your 'simplify' battle cry, is having wider implications! I guess if you are still directing others in their purchases and buy the occasional 'must have', all the vendors will be happy!

I've seen some very cool carvings of snakes in New Mexico. I am not sure of their origin; I don't believe it was Navaho.

I'm not sure what 'Picasso marble' is.

Great t-shirt!

I see Ottawa must have been inspired.

Hey, Sawsee!

Nah, the Sens just got lucky! I do hate it when things get nasty, though.... Did you see the game?

It's not a 10 hour drive for me. It's about a 2-1/4 to 3 hour drive from Dallas.

Picasso Marble is a brown/black/gray stone in a "marbled" pattern. It's a natural color for many of the animals which makes the carvings especially cool.

I don't know about the snakes you saw. Are they colorful (as in bright reds/yellows/blues/greens)? If so, they are probably Hispanic. There are three distinct cultures in New Mexico. (Native American/Spaniard/Anglo)

Yeah, Love America or Give it Back!

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady!

I didn't see the game! I was busy and turned on the TV just to see the follow-up reports on the game.

The Picasso marble sounds great; I am pretty sure I have seen it before, as you describe.

I knew a Lady that collected the snakes, from New Mexico. I always assumed they were Native american but they were brightly painted like Hispanic designs.

She hung them around her doorways/gardens.

I think a lot of people don't realize how good they have it, or they just want to protest and be disruptive.

Hi, Sawsee! Tee hee hee.....

I just wish that this series hadn't turned so nasty. I haven't been watching close enough to know who started it, but I am familiar with Anaheim's game......

And then there is Bill McCreary (ref) with his reputation for many, many, many, MANY questionable calls. Isn't it time for him to take his whistle and retire?

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady!

Well, I did catch the last few minutes of the game. It is very typical how many playoff games sink into 'nastiness'!

I never have been a fan of McCreary! Yes, give him a golden pass and see if he can get lost!

Anonymous said...

LOL! That's a good one Sawsee!

Well, tonight could be the night that The Cup is hoisted in the West!

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady! Yes, let's keep the cup in the West!

I do hope the Ducks win it tonight; hockey was never meant to be played in June!

I have not seen any stats on the viewship NBC is getting, but I would not be surprised if it was low!

On the news an Anaheim resident was asked who the Ducks were playing, and they said Minnesota!

I guess they got the Northeast part, kind of, right...

Hey, Sawsee!

Viewership for Game 3 was 1.5 on NBC. I guess they don't have the numbers for Game 4 yet.

There is an article in today's "The Dallas Morning News" by Tim Cowlishaw about how the NHL can boost viewership. Some of his ideas are pretty radical but it's an interesting read.

Sawsee said...

Hi Lady! Thanks for the article! I just checked it out; a lot of great ideas!

I really like the idea of not 'icing' during a penalty; it would make 'powerplays more exciting and would reduce the stupid penalties.

Way back when, the NHL had 1/3 the amount of teams. Less teams: more talented players per team.

I think they should cut back the length of the season too. Thanks for the story!

Ooooh! I don't know about a shorter season. Life without hockey is like life without Lost or chocolate! That would be pretty hard for me......

What do you think about the Penguins making a 19-year-old their captain? To me, that's just plain wrong! I don't care how good your are, you need to pay your dues and work your way up just like everyone else.

Sawsee said...

Lady! The last thing I would want to do, is deprive you of your Hockey fix! I guess the Ice Capades would not be a good substitute?

Yes, I agree! Crosby is obviously a superstar in the 'making' but he is far too young to be made a Captain!! There are many players in their 40's (Ok, a few) and they'll have to look up to their 19 year old captain! Plus, I think it is a bit irresponsible of the management team, to put that much added pressure on a person that is still developing as a NHL player.

Tee hee hee.

Take THAT you spoiled little brats in the NHL East! The Time Zone Shuffle isn't so easy, is it?

Greybishop said...

I take it Ottawa lost?

Sawsee said...

Yes, Ottawa lost. They don't like to fly. On the other hand, Ducks were born to...
